Based on the Facebook Group (MaestroDMX Users Helping Users), many users are using Maestro for live band use. In a live band situation, the activity level detection just doesn't work. When using 1 cue per song, activity level is needed to provide variations between sections of songs (lower activity for the Verse, higher activity for the Chorus, etc). This works good for studio tracks, ..but again, does not work in live band settings.
It would be great if we could set the Activity Level via MIDI so live bands can leverage activity level to provide those variations throughout the song. OR, if that breaks the architecture too much, possibly provide a MIDI trigger to change sections of a song, ..such that live bands can let Maestro know it's the verse vs the chorus (or bridge, solo, etc.). Or, easier yet, a MIDI trigger to just tell Maestro to make a switch (a different color of the selected palette, a different movement within the selected pattern), and we can trigger it as we enter the chorus, bridge, or a new verse, etc.
The only alternative to create multiple cues per song. I really don't want to do that. We play 45 songs a gig, ..and the song order changes each gig. It would be too painful to move 5-7 cues per song with 45 songs just to setup Maestro for a gig.

Ok thanks I think I understand the request and I've split it up into two requests:
1. improved musical transition detection, specifically for live bands.
You are correct, that it's in part changes in spectral information that triggers changes, so in produced tracks with rises and things like that, they would trigger transitions. We are working on new sets of transition detection algorithms, it's an active research project for us.
2. midi trigger override for musical transitions: a midi note control that would manually bump the maestro patterns to select the next child-patterns. This could also add a "fill" effect when pressed.

That is correct, the algorithm is not performing in a live band situation.
I have multitrack recordings of my band playing our cover songs. I can feed that into Maestro and it will sense the kickdrum and control the lights. However, it makes no visual change when transitioning from the verse to the chorus. I can then play the studio track of the same exact song, and Maestro will mostly (not all the time) make changes during song transitions. I notice that on studio tracks, the excitement meters moves around, ..but when feeding it my band track, it stays about 60%. It will change if the song has an obvious change, ...like the drums drop out in a section. I did show this to your staff during a helpdesk session, but nothing could really be done about it. I assume it's because with a live band, there is nothing really added to "lift" the chorus. On a studio track, most choruses are "lifted" by adding instruments and excitement sonically.
At the end of the day, it would be great to add some trigger features for us band people such that the lights will visually change during different song sections. Kind of like drum machines have for live acoustic performers (Beat Buddy). They will tap the trigger button and the drum machine will play a fill and then change things up a little to keep it interesting.

Out of curiosity, is it the algorithms not performing that is the issue, and the desire for an override a work around? How are you sending the audio in (maybe adding some EQ or tailoring which instruments are sent to maestro could help).
