If you have a data plan on your phone, you should be able to be on the device's wifi and also the internet at the same time.

If you do not have data on your phone, something you could try is setting the network to "dhcp" and connecting the maestro directly to your home router via ethernet. Then you can be online and connected to maestro at the same time.

If that's not an option, go to the "wifi" tab and connect your maestro to your home wifi.  That's another way to access maestro and your wifi at the same time.

Hope this helps! :)

My major criticism is that because this unit requires a dedicated WiFi connection with your device it effectively prevents the user from accessing the internet with your device. Which is where the fixture library is supposed to be. It’s also where the update files are as well as tech support.  The few instructional videos you have only show it being connected with a computer.  We need videos demonstrating how to do this with Apple, Google or android phones and tablets. Maestro is saying “computer not necessary” but where’s the videos? Sadly There are none.

It’s not easy to keep going into my phone or tablet, hopping back and forth between my home WiFi and Maestro WiFi to get anything done. I challenge you to do a set up out of the box with 10 random new fixtures using just your phone and you’ll see what I’m talking about here.

Well done, Gabby.

As a new user with minimal DMX experience, I was able to set this up right out of the box. https://youtu.be/action

Hi Miles!

Sounds like you're experiencing some frustrations!

Please consider attending office hours, we can help get you set up!

*Very small library of fixtures which aren’t updated

We supply our fixtures through a website, with over 30k fixture profiles included. https://fixtures.maestrodmx.com/. We are constantly improving and updating the fixtures shared on this website based on user input and through support tickets. So the profiles available there are always up to date.

*Yes it does require a laptop

You can configure your maestro from any device with a web browser: phone, tablet, or computer. Once you've set it up, it will run on it's own, which is what makes it standalone. But yes you need a device to configure it, but it doesn't have to be a laptop.

*Poor instructional videos

Did you check out this one?

If you have specific criticism we can try to address them, but just saying "poor" without detail doesn't help us improve.

*How the heck can you run an Ethernet cable from your phone or tablet lol

Maestro serves up an AP wifi network, so you can connect to maestro via wifi on your phone or tablet, ethernet not required. If you *do* want to use the ethernet, you can buy an ethernet adapter for your phone!. Another option we see often if you need more powerful wifi for shows and live environments it to connect your maestro via ethernet to an external wifi router.

*Very overpriced

It sounds like you may not have gotten the controller working yet. I would ask that you reserve judgement on the value of the system until you actually get it set it up properly....

*DOES NOT WORK OUT OF THE BOX

DMX fixtures are 1-way communication. There is no way our box can know what fixtures you have unless you tell it. That's all you have to do, just tell it what fixtures you have.

*Unit needs updating with a USB stick( need computer. lol)

As of version 1.4, you can update via the web interface without any need for a usb stick, which, again run on any device with a web browser (phone, ipad, computer).

*Fixture search window frequently comes up EMPTY

*Fixture search window EXTREMELY fussy you get zero results if fixture  isn’t typed in precisely..IF the fixture exists which more than likely  it doesn’t.

It sounds like you need help searching for fixtures on our fixture website. The library has more than 30k fixtures.

Again, I recommend office hours! you can chat over video with a member of our support team, they're fantastic and can help you with your issues.

Take Care
Gabby
